Interview with Parallax, Aion GM

Parallax was kind enough to answer some questions for the Infinity Community.

Saint:
Hi Parallax,

I have been asked by the Infinity community to present several questions that concern the entire player base as we feel we are not informed about any progress.

The waiting queues.
Is there something being done about the waiting queues? As we know, stopping the private stores will not stop the waiting queues, as simple other methods will cause people to not get kicked out after a long AFK.
A) Jumping, place something heavy on the keyboard, you will not disconnect from server
B) pressing the numlock button. You will run endlessly even though there is something stopping you.
C) Fighting fightdummies. Just put on auto-attack and you will stay logged in.
D) Use the "rest" normally used to regain HP and MP, will help a player not to get logged out.
I am sure there are more ways to stay afk and not get logged out.
So is it not the ways to stay in the game you have to work on, but the number of people allowed on the server that needs work? We are already had members changing servers because of this issue. In this matter the question is: Are you going to wait till less players log on, or is there actually something done to increase the number of players on those busy servers?

Parallax:
Please understand that this is a nearly unavoidable aspect of a major MMO game launch. We have thousands of players excited about trying out Aion, and the server traffic will be a bit high this soon after the game has been released. Over time, the queue wait times should lessen. We have also taken some proactive measures to remedy this problem. Server caps have been increased across the board, and new servers have been added. As for the people jumping/autorun etc. to stay online, those people will become less of a problem as we gradually open servers and increase caps. We are trying to remedy this issue as quickly as possible, but also as wisely as possible. It is a statistical fact that a certain percentage of players will leave the game after three months. And while that does not mean we are waiting three months for those players to cancel their accounts, it does mean that we want to make sure the new servers we implement are fully ready for players before we open them to the public, and we want to make sure we won't have to put all of our remaining players through the nightmare of having to condense servers.

Saint:
Most of us have a feeling that the queues will be worked out, and indeed we know
that a certain group of players will stop playing after 2-3 months. So we
are confident this will be sorted out. We just hope that it's not gonna be
another 2-3 months before the queues become smaller.
One other question on this part: A lot of us, at least 95% are
players that have pre-ordered Aion (most with CE). Because of the enormous
queues at the start of the game, some players have payed for an early access
but haven't been able to log on at normal (peek) playing hours, because of
these queues. Is NCSoft going to give something to the people with the
pre-orders to compensate for this, in items or in gametime?
We understand that even though like you already stated, this kind of startup
is to be expected. But the playerbase screams for a compensation, even a
small one. Can you give us an update on this?

Parallax:
While it's been discussed, the GM staff has not heard anything about this going into effect. Be sure, though, that if it does, it'll be posted all over the AionOnline website. And if I hear that it is going to be implemented, I'll personally make sure you are responded to, letting you know. I hope that helps. :)

Saint:
Our Legion, and several other legions have made a petition multiple times about the same goldsellers (spammers) over a 5 days timespan. Not once a GM contacted us and the goldseller keeps on spamming.
We have had one reply from Ayase to use the /anon option. But that will also mean that other players cannot find us for parties. So this is not a solution.
In this matter, our questions are: What is done about the goldsellers? Is it any use for us to make a petition about it?

Parallax:
It is always helpful to send in a petition about gold spammers. We hate them as much as you do and most of our day is spent banning these accounts. Any report on a spammer we receive gets swift justice. So please, send those reports in. We really do appreciate your help in ridding the game of these leeches. In addition to this, blocking a player now sends a report to us. So you no longer have to log out of the game and try and remember the mish-mash of letters for your report-- right-clicking on a name and selecting "Block" will alert us who's not playing so nice with others.

Saint:
What is NCSofts perspective on playing via proxy, to avoid block on certain countries IP’s?

Parallax:
While we do not support people who access the wrong region's servers, this is not a violation of our terms of service.

Saint:
When we know people are buying gold or exploiting, is it any use to petition?

Parallax:
If players are doing something that does violate our user agreement, we will investigate them fully and action them thoroughly. :) If this is the case, and they are violating the rules (such as buying or selling gold), please submit a normal violation report so we can set some people on this to investigate.

Saint:
We understand it is pretty busy at the moment for you GM's and it takes a
bit more time then usual to respond. Thanks for the hard work, even though it’s not noticed by the whole Aion community, it is seen by us!.

Parallax:
We're working very hard over here at the moment and it's nice to hear that what we're doing is being seen. So, thanks! :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

When I logged on later today (with only a little queue, instead of 1-3 hours) to have some Abyss fun with the Guild, I watched the general chat, and I don't know if anyone had already noticed, but there was no spam. I haven't had 1 whisper for goldselling today.  The GM's are working really hard, and take their time to response to the community.

So thanks GM's and thanks NCSoft!

ps. Tonight we also claimed our first Artifact. Even though we got a bit of a late start, Infinity will be ruling fortresses soon. Then... the world!
